Teaching a lesson where art history is involved in some way? Or are you trying to get a grasp for arts that were happening during a certain period in history? It is important that you come into your lesson prepared and knowledgeable about these artists, works, and time periods. Here are some great resources that make it easy!
Artist/Artwork/Art History Resources
This site is great for finding everything you need to know about specific artists, works, or information about the time period. Search by timeline, style, artist, or themes (such as Big Ideas, Media used, Galleries, etc.) Includes videos and essays about the works as well as helpful links for why you should study art!
This website has famous paintings already coupled with art appreciation lessons to help you talk to students about art. The lessons were written for elementary level but can easily be adapted to suit older students. Each lesson comes with a biography of the artist,
a study sheet, a worksheet, a greyscale print of the picture, a jigsaw puzzle, a printable and online crossword puzzle, word search, and word scramble, links for further research, and links to art lessons for many of the artists.
There are posters, books, and videos you can order.

Artcyclopedia is a great site for searching for artists, artworks, or museums. You can search by subject matter, nationality, women artists, etc. There are also great links for art in the news and for major museums.

Looking for a particular artist who is from more recent times? Search this site for modern and contemporary artists alphabetically, by their time period, art style, or art technique. Search the artist's works, biographies, articles that have been written about them, and their personal website (if one exists). This site also has links to art exhibits, art prizes, portfolios and art in the news.
About.com article that lists famous musicians (searchable) by time period along with general developments in music during the period.
Great website that lists famous musicians both old and new (contemporary) with short biographies of each.
